Brian Baird

Brian Baird is the Director of the Ocean and Coastal Program at The Bay Institute and Aquarium of the Bay.

Brian served as the Assistant Secretary for Ocean and Coastal Policy under California Governors Brown, Schwarzenegger, Davis, and Wilson. He was the chief writer of teh ocean action plans for Governors Wilson and Schwarzenegger. He represented Califorina on the West Coast Governers' Alliance, advised the California Ocean Protection Council, and served on both the California Coastal Commission and the Bay Conservation and Development Commission. He also created and was vice-chair of all four California and the World Ocean conferences. Nationally, Brian served as both vice-chair and chair of the Coastal States Organization and served as a state government advisor to the National Ocean Council (he was nominated by the Governors of California, Oregon, and Washington). Brian received recognition for his service from the California State Legislature and the California Congressional Delegation in 2011. Brian served as a consultant to The Bay Institute and Aquarium of the Bay in 2012 and 2013, supporting the America's Cup Healthy Ocean Project.
