Historic Marshlands
The San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary is a partially enclosed, tidally influenced body of water where fresh water from interior rivers meets salty Pacific Ocean water. Because of this unique interaction of geography and water chemistry, a highly productive ecosystem once flourished throughout the watershed, including 550,000 acres of historic tidal wetlands.
