Restoration Projects

The Bay Institute plays a key role in raising funds, negotiating land transfers and promoting public support to restore 100,000 acres of wetlands, including Skaggs Island, Bahia, Cullinan Ranch, Sonoma Baylands and Napa Salt Marsh.

The Bay Institute played a key role in negotiating the transfer of Skaggs Island to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Purchased by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1989, Cullinan Ranch still awaits funding for restoration.
High concentrations of residual salt in the Napa salt pond complex is slowing its restoration.
Sonoma Baylands was one of the most carefully planned wetland restoration projects in the U.S.
The Bay Institute secured a $100,000 grant to assist the Marin Audubon Society with restoring the Bahia tidal marsh.
