Lower Yuba River
In the Sacramento Valley, Rivers & Delta program staff negotiated a fisheries agreement with Yuba County Water Agency that will result in up to 170,000 acre-feet more water annually to protect spawning and rearing habitat for the salmon and steelhead runs of the lower Yuba River.
Governor Schwarzenegger recognized The Bay Institute for our work with the Yuba County Water Agency (YCWA) on the Yuba Accord, a new operational program for YCWA's facilities, including New Bullard's Bar Dam and Reservoir, enabling the agency to increase instream flows along 24 miles of the Lower Yuba River for salmon and steelhead. The Governor presented YCWA with the 2009 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles on September 30, 2009.
