I like birdwatching! We saw woodpeckers and Finches. At our restoration we pulled non-native plants and planted native plants on Novato Creek. Native plants will provide food and shelter for fish to spawn.

Dear STRAW people
Thank you for the field trip. I am the boy closest to the camera. I don’t look like I am having fun ,but I am having lots of fun. And I feel good that I am helping the city of Novato. From Juancarlos
Dear STRAW,
Thank you for inviting us to the creek restoration project. I had a blast! My group planted 8 plants and we felt great doing it. Now, because of you, I enjoy helping the environment. My parents are surprised to see me picking up garbage around my house. I care more because of my experience. Thanks for this chance to learn. Your friend, Alex

STRAW restoration project
I really love planting plants. It is so fun. I hope I see you again. One of the plants we planted is a California Rose. They need the plants to be protected from the wildlife.
After the planting we do the bird watching which we got to watch lots of birds and wildlife. Nicole
Dear STRAW,
I felt outstanding when I did this creek restoration project because we were helping our town and our watershed. What I planted there was the Oak tree, many Cream Bushes, Native Blackberry Bush, and many California Roses. We weeded a lot. I love it because I love to help my city and our creek.
Thank you for a wonderful trip!
Sincerely, Camille
Dear STRAW.
Wow! What a day I had, and guess what? You’re the organization that made it so cool. Thank you for your time and effort. It feels so nice to help out my city. I feel like I was able to help with the creek restoration by planting native plants, pulling out non-native plants, and keeping the hillside from eroding. It was fun getting to go outside to learn more about birds with Jessica and Missy. I also enjoyed the growth of plants and the elimination of non-native plants.
I had so much fun that I wanted to present what I learned at your conference. With all due respect, Christine Cho

Dear S.T.R.A.W.,
I really liked doing this restoration. It was really fun planting the plants in the creek. I knew that I was helping the environment, and that’s a good thing to know. I felt really great doing this. Thank you for letting us have this opportunity. I had a lot of fun planting the Corax grass. I was glad that I was saving the creek from erosion and keeping non-native plants from taking over. I also felt good about helping the creek’s fish spawn, trees survive, and helping the environment go back the way it was.
So again, thank you for letting us do this, and learning all this in action. Sincerely, Brennan
Dear STRAW,
Thank you for helping us with the creek restoration on the muddy creek bottoms. I think it was nice of you to spend your time explaining how we can help our community. It was a perfect day to work. I had a lot of fun working with you guys. Helping the creek avoid erosion and take out non-native plants was a blast. From, Jacqueline
Dear STRAW
Thank you for letting us go on this awesome field trip. You are very nice and kind. I enjoyed helping Novato’s creeks and animals. I enjoyed planting plants, digging for plants, and using tools. I can’t remember the exact plant, but my favorite one was a kind of skinny plant. I also enjoyed looking at birds through the telescope. From, Vince
Dear STRAW,
Thank you for teaching us how important restoration the creek was. It was so much fun to get to dig and plant. I think everyone just felt so alive because they got to feel like little kids again. Well, at least that’s how I felt. So thanks again and good luck with the other creeks! From, Jayme F.

Dear STRAW,
Thank you for making this field trip fun. I had a really great time! I planted a Cream bush and many other plants. I’m glad to help stop the erosion by planting native plants, and pulling out native plants. I also liked seeing the neat birds. Thanks for using your time so we can learn.
Again thank you for this fun field trip! From Nicole G.
Thank you for teaching us how to save creeks. I will go and do this more often myself. I thought this was a blast and I had fun doing it. I learned a lot about planting. Now I can do planting in my dad’s backyard.
Thanks for coming into our class and talking about that before we did it. It looked hard when you showed us but it was pretty easy. I tried my best to stop the erosion and I hoped it worked.
From, Jeff
Dear S.T.R.AW.,
Thank you so much for helping us with our project and teaching us how to plant. I loved learning about all of the birds. My favorite kind of bird is the Scrub-Jay. I also loved learning about the bushes. I enjoyed planting the California Rose! I planted about ten plants in the process. I love keeping the dirt from eroding by planting native plants. Before this I did not know that it made a difference to the salmon coming up stream to all there eggs. I found out that native plants provide the food and shelter that the salmon need. I loved learning about native and non-native plants. Thank you so much STRAW! From, Carly H.
Dear STRAW,
Thank you so much for showing us how to plant little plants to make flowers. I really enjoyed it and now that you have showed me, I can plant some more to help our environment. I love to learn and when I went to the creek I learned a lot!
Thanks again, and I hope to see you soon. From Brandon D.
Dear STRAW restoration Company,
I thank you for letting us do this project. I had so much fun and I am willing to do it again. My favorite parts were shoveling and using the pliers. Now thanks to you guys I can help my grandma garden. You guys are the best! Thank you so much. From, Isiah
Dear STRAW,
I would like to give a special thanks to all the people that actually gave us the opportunity to do this project. You must have fun at work every day! I got to plant all sorts of plants like Cream Bushes, and maybe even an oak tree. It felt great to help erosion, and to assist in the fight so that the non-native plants don’t take over the creek.
Thank you again for bringing all those plants and tools for us to sue. My group and I wish you luck!
From Jamye F.

Dear STRAW,
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with you. My favorite part was going on a bird watch. Thanks Missy and Jessica. I was glad to get to help in stopping erosion by planting native plants. I also know that the salmon need the native plants for food for their eggs while they hatch. I wish to do it again!
From, Lauren W.
Dear STRAW,
I enjoyed the creek restoration project because we got to plant plants and save the creek. I thank the guy in the gray and black jacket for helping us. I also thank Missy and Jessica from pulling us over to the side to look at birds. I have learned how to plant very well now. I will try to plant more often and save more creeks from eroding. Before the planting, people from STRAW came to our classroom and explained what the STRAW project was all about. I thank them too.
I had fun and hope that I’ll get another chance to do this project. From, Neil
Dear STRAW,
Thank you so much for putting on this program. (I really enjoyed it because we had no school.) I like planting the Oak, carex, and the CA Rose. From, Michael
Dear STRAW,
Thank you for teaching us how to save creeks. I will do this more often by myself. I thought this was a blast and I had fun doing in. I learned a lot about planting now I can just plant in general.
Thanks for coming into our class and talking about planting before we planted. It looked hard when you showed us but it was pretty easy.
Thanks for teaching me how to plant all those plants. I really enjoyed learning.
From, Chris
Dear STRAW people,
Thank you for letting us help with the creek. I liked planting all the Carex. Andrew, Brennan, Neil and I, Nick, planted almost 20 Carex plants. Our group planted about 35 plants. Another part of the field trip that I liked was using the birds that live there. We saw some Robins, Woodpeckers, California Finches, and we even saw some Turkey Vultures. It was also fun that we got to walk over to the site from our school. It was about one and a half mile walk. I liked helping our environment. Nick.
Dear STRAW
Thank you Jessica and Missy for letting us see the beautiful birds by using the binoculars. That was wonderful. Can we do this again? From, Georgia

Dear STRAW,
Thanks for letting our fourth grade class plant native plants. My favorite plant to plant was the native grape. I like to use the trowels a lot. I n the picture you are showing us how to be safe with the tools when we plant. Thanks a lot for all your help and letting us plant native plants. Sincerely, Drake.
Dear STRAW,
I liked this project because it helped the community and nature. I like nature and animals. Thank you for helping us plant native plants. I planted a Bullseye Tree and saw a Blue Jay, a Robin, and an Acorn Woodpecker. Sincerely, Chloe
Dear STRAW
Thank you for letting our class participate in the fun project of planting native plants in our city creek. The creek is by our public library, and so it will be fun to go and watch our plants from when we go to the library.
I think everybody enjoyed planting and getting wet down near the creek, because we were having fun and helping the creek go back to its natural state.
I also thought it was very interesting how you use the flags to decide where to plant. My favorite that I planted was the “J P” which is what is said on the yellow flag. Sincerely, Jillian W.
