Dunham's STRAW Project
Dunham Elementary School
Petaluma, California

On January 16, 2003 the third and fifth grade students from Dunham worked on a creek restoration project at a ranch in Chileno Valley.  Working alongside the team from the STRAW project and members of the Brazil family, students spent the day planting trees and native plants to protect the creek beds from erosion.
Working in small groups, the students planted over 120 trees. Early in the morning, Denise demonstrated how to plant the trees.

Dunham students hard at work!

Back home at Dunham, we watch the health of our own creek.

In the fifth grade, we raise steelhead from eggs and then release them back into our watershed.  We learn about our local watershed, its inhabitants and what it means to have a healthy watershed.
