Park School STRAW Mini-Summit Park School, Mill Valley School District |
||
| As part of the Park School Earth Day celebration, Mrs. Rigney's first grade class, Mrs. Barry's second grade class, Mrs. Uyeda's third grade class and Mrs. Falkenrath's fourth grade class shared what they learned about their watershed and the organisms that live in it. | Park School students helped to restore sections of Warner Creek and Old Mill creek in Mill Valley near their school. They planted native plants and pulled out ivy. It was fun! The students were trained and supervised by staff from STRAW (Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed) and MCSTOPPP (Marin County Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program). | |
Mrs. Uyeda's class taught visitors about surface tension of water.
Students identified aquatic insects from the creek.
Mrs. Barry's students got to work with ornithologists from PRBO Conservation Science. They taught summit visitors about feathers and how birds fly.

Mrs. Falkenrath's students taught visitors about native plants. Here are some of their reflections after planting native plants at Warner Creek.
