Joanne Golden's sixth graders

Jean Moran, a hydrogeologist, and Christi Nelson, a geologist and cartographer spent the morning in my class in February.

Students participated in a variety of hands-on activities, including reading maps of the earth, identifying and determining the age of various types of rocks, and learning about the earth's history.

As a follow-up activity, Jean and Christi have organized a hike on Mt. Burdell (part of our local watershed) on May 4th. Rick Ford, a graduate student doing his thesis on the geology of Mt. Burdell, is leading it.
