Hummingbird

Where?

 Out of the sky,

I hear you hum,

But where, of where are you,

My little hummingbird?

Buzz, you zip through the air,

There you are!

Perched on a leaf,

Feasting on the sweet smelling flower pollen,

You stop,

Zip,

You’re on the loose again!

Going faster than lightning,

My little hummingbird

You are only 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 inches long,

And still,

You fly like an eagle,

Zip, through the sky,

Like a peregrine falcon, you

Come out of the sky.

 Black-chinned Hummingbird

American Robin

 American Robin

Pullling up worms

On the lawn.

American Robin

Dropping insects

Into nestling’s mouths.

American Robin

Calling

Weeuweewee, wup wup,

My life bird,

A wonderful bird.

                               By Tommy B.

 Black-chinned Hummingbird

Purple collar,

Gossamer wings,

Sipping nectar

From wildflowers,

Calling, calling,

Tchew, tchew, tchew,

Only a caring

Person could

Translate:

Help! We need help!

Our numbers are declining,

Quickly

Deep in my heart,

I feel the pain,

The Black-chinned

Hummingbird feels,

When we pollute,

Please help my bird.

                                By Marie K.

Black necked Stilt

Beak is as long as a banana

Little

Acute bird

Cool bird,

Keen.

Naughty,

Ever pips,

Could migrate,

Keeps pip pip pip pipping,

Ever lasting

Does something.

Super long legs,

Tinier than a bald eagle,

It looks suspicious,

Likes the water,

Today.

Barn Swallow

 The Barn Swallow flies,

Swiftly across the gigantic blue bay.

The Barn Swallow leaps,

Across rocks on a sunny day.

The Barn Swallow’s

Rusty brown stomach puffs out

When they are cold.

The Barn Swallow’s

Call is soft

Dedaleedd dedaledd.

The Barn Swallow

Has a tan-white head

That sparkles and shines

In the sunlight

The Barn Swallow

Has a Royal blue back and tail

That flutters when they fly.

Their soft wings pass me by,

When I look up in the light blue sky.

                                      By Tealy G.

My Life Bird

 Turkey Vulture,

Turkey Vulture

Why is your head so red?

When I see your beauty,

I feel like

I am a turkey vulture

Like you

                                      By Travis G.

 American Crow

 American Crow

Can

You

Teach me

How

To fly,

Teach me

To live in the wild

Please.

                                   By Tim Y.

 Osprey

The weaver who weaves the pattern

Of the sky.

It lays upon its young while hatch

Through glass of burned feathers melted

Into the love and gentility of god.

The giver and receiver of the sun’s gifts,

To receive with honor from the

Millions of stars and clouds.

Its wings have a beat of which I can’t

Read through the skies

Between the earth and heaven the

Beautiful Osprey lives upon both.

Its tears have never fallen and if

So they break into pieces of rain.

I feel too many feelings to feel

About the winged moon.

I  know of nothing about it either

Books, we can never know this creature,

Knowing it we can’t, knowing it never

Loving it we can, loving it forever

This bird is that.

This bird is hatred and joy,

This bird if joy and hatred.

Look into its eyes of yellow blazing

Fire that can be shut of men.

Though it’s strong, the men can

Break its soul to pieces.

We want to see its beautiful

Sunset wings upon the land don’t

Do what is wrong, do right.

Keeping its young warm while

Snowing of stars and gifts of god.

 Its name of which abandoned

With its only hopes of survival.

                                    By Samantha B.

Western Screech Owl

How you give the evil eye

To your enemy,

How you eat bigger prey

Than yourself,

Your call is so cool,

It goes a little like this,

Hoooooo Hoooooooo,

                                          By Jess T.

Restoration

Manor Students worked with MCSTOPPP and STRAW to restore a section of Kittle Creek at Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross, CA. Here are some of their reflections on the day.
