Six students went to a Board Meeting because we were asked by the school board to present what Ms. Cuomo¹s class did with the creek.
All six students had a little speech to give and split up jobs, like who helped us do the restoration, why we did it, when we did it, and where we did it.

Some other students from Ms. Cuomo's class made a poster. It showed pictures of students on our restoration day at the creek. There were also captions to read when you flipped the pictures over.

At the meeting, there were the five school board members, parents supporting their kids, Ms. Cuomo, other teachers, Ruth Hicks (from STRAW) and even our principal, Mr. Wolkenfeld.

When I was there (I was one of the students who went), I got really nervous because I was presenting in front of the school board. I didn't think I would do so well with my presentation because it scares me every time I'm up in front of people. Everyone was staring only at me and I was the only one talking (even though five other students were standing with me). I got really nervous because my stepdad, brother, mother, and other people I didn't even know. It turned out great anyway, and I'm glad that I went to the school board.

School Board Meeting – Science Presentation           by Stephanie S.

On Thursday, April 7, 2005, six students from Ms. Cuomo’s science class presented short speeches about our creek restoration. I talked about why we planted native plants with colored tags. The building this took place in was the Ross Valley School District Office. We were in a small room with a small audience. We were first on the agenda. It was kind of nerve – racking at first because presenting something in front of a group of people who have an important role for the district was kind of weird but after, we were glad we did it. Pulling up non – native plants was really hard because the roots were stuck in there and after that little trip, my back was aching but I think it was worth it. I think next year Ms Cuomo should do this with the new seventh graders if there are other non – native plants to pull. This “ field trip” was awesome!
