Ms. Front's 4th grade class
Park School, Mill Valley
This Spring, Room 7 raised steelhead from eggs, releasing them back into the Russian River watershed as six-week-old fry. As only about three eggs survive to complete the steelhead life cycle, students wrote letters of advice to the fry to help them on their way.
This project is part of an even larger effort by Room 7 and Park School to restore Warner Creek in Mill Valley so that one day, the steelhead will return to our community creeks and streams. The class observes the creek regularly over the school year and tracks the data. Being at the creek also inspires poetry, some of which you will see on this site, along with some letters of advice to the fry we released.
