MES 2nd graders study the Salmon life cycle. Here's what their class web pages have to say about the exciting events in their classrooms: Salmon Research Projects: Students will be working in cooperative groups to research the salmon lifecycle, physical traits, habitats, and threats/survival. With their group members, they will create a project to demonstrate all they have learned. In the past, students have produced posters, board games, picture books, game shows, skits, and dioramas.

Science Alert! Science Alert! The Salmon are here!! If you haven't checked them out yet, you should stop by the classroom to watch this amazing life cycle. We started with the arrival of our Salmon eggs. After about 2 weeks, they began to hatch, (just as predicted) turning into Alevin. Currently the Alevin still have part of their egg attached to their bellies and it's their food sac. As soon as they eat this up they will turn into Fry, and they will be able to swim. We have been having fun keeping a Salmon Journal of our observations! We will keep the Salmon until April 28th when we take a field trip to the Hatchery to release the Salmon. As you can tell, Salmon have been the focus of study for 2nd grade. The life cycle, habitat, body parts and many, many facts are being learned about Salmon. Don't be surprised if your child doesn't want to eat Salmon after this study. |
