I really enjoyed putting in the dry water and hammering down the deer net.  The dry water reminded me of hair gel because it was so jiggly and sticky.  Its shape reminded me of a worm, which we found lots of.  Rolling the dirt on the dry water was like putting fur on a caterpillar.

The deer net was fun too.  After the net was weaved on to the poles, I got to hammer it in around the plant.  I had to be careful because I almost smashed my finger about three times.  When we were done putting the deer net on the plant, it looked like it was wearing a traffic cone.  Corinne

STRAW

I liked our field trip to STRAW.  I learned that planting trees and flowers take a long time to plant.  Traveling to the cow field was gross.  I was scared of the electric fence because one of my friends, who was in my group, got shocked even though the fence was off.  Helping Mother Nature was hard and fun at the same time. If we didn’t help, the watershed would be filled with weeds, and animals wouldn’t want to live or eat any of the plants.  I hope I go to see the plants in a couple of years!  Working in a group was hard because we would keep arguing about who does what, but at the end it was worth it, because I found out that all the kids planted 99 plants.  I hope they start growing soon!   Raveena

STRAW

My 5th grade class and I went on a field trip called STRAW.  One of my favorite parts was when we planted the plants.  I enjoyed gathering all of the supplies with Natalie then helping plant them.

We planted four plants.  We all tried to work in a group.  John, Alexis, Junyoung, Natalie, my Mom and I had to rake the hay, grass, weeds, and everything but mud.  Then we dug a hole big enough to put the plant in the hole, put  in the dry water tubes, and covered it back up.  Then we put the safety guard on and the mat.

My favorite plant was the Hawthorn. It was the biggest and last one there.  It was our 2nd plant planted by our group.  It took forever.  It took us like a half hour.  We planted it by the riverbank.  That was my favorite part of the STRAW field trip.  Colleen

Dry Water

I enjoyed the dry water.  It is so squishy and it looks like gel.  I didn’t know what it was at first, but when they told everybody and we said, “ew”.  I thought it was cool.  I also didn’t know you should roll it in dirt before putting it in the tubes that go into the plants.  Cecilia

Dear  STRAW  Helpers

I thought the STRAW field trip was a great experience to show people what they can do to help the Earth.  I loved the field trip because it was fun, but I also loved the fact that I was helping Earth.  I think that if enough people get involved in the same thing we did that day, then there would be a lot of improvements.

I didn’t care for walking in the cow field or getting a little shocked from the fence, but the planting of plants was really fun.  I also found that the long, skinny ones were easiest.  Then we ate lunch.  Yummm.  After, we all got in a circle to talk about what is recyclable.  Then, after that, we went to see what past classes had done so we could get a good idea what ours would look like.  I was sad we left, but glad I helped.  Alyssa
